Euthanasia: Putting Pets to Sleep
Euthanasia
Unfortunately, our beloved pets do not live forever. Inevitably, there will come a time when, due to disease, injury, or just old age, the decision will have to be made to put a pet to sleep for the benefit of their welfare. This can be a tough decision to make, especially with pets that have been family members for a long time or those with conditions that have been waxing and waning for long periods.
This scoring chart may help you assess your pet’s quality of life; it can be downloaded here.
Your pet and yourself will always be treated with the utmost respect during the euthanasia process. Many of our team members have had to go through a similar situation, so we know how difficult a time can be. We always encourage owners to stay with their pets during this painless procedure, although we understand if owners prefer just to leave their pets with us.
Many owners often prefer to have their pets put to sleep at home, and we are happy to accommodate this. In these situations, both a vet and a nurse will attend the visit. Following euthanasia, owners can take their pets for home burial or leave them with us for cremation at a pet crematorium. Private cremation is also available for owners who would like their pet’s ashes back, with various scatter boxes and caskets available.
We are always here to support you in this challenging period and will always make time to discuss all possibilities and plans with you. Our clients and patients are important and personal to us, and you can rest assured that you and your pet will be treated individually and sensitively at this difficult time.
